# AI for Paralegals

> Plain-English AI for working paralegals: first drafts in ten minutes, deposition summaries in half the time, client updates that end the ‘any news?’ calls — and the confidentiality, citation-verification, and UPL rules that keep it all safe under attorney supervision.

## What it takes off your hands

ten and a half hours every week.

- Chapter 4 — First drafts of routine documents, the proofread pass (~3 hours)
- Chapter 5 — Client updates, records requests, the memos nobody reads (~2 hours)
- Chapter 6 — Deposition summaries, indexes, logs, chronologies (~2 hours)
- Chapter 7 — The career file: resume, certification study, the raise case (~1 hour)
- Chapter 8 — Reading, translating, and cheat-sheeting the law around your cases (~1.5 hours)
- Chapter 9 — The getting-ahead work you keep postponing (~1 hour)

That’s ten and a half hours in a normal week. Your first week will be slower — you’re learning a tool. By week three, the numbers above are realistic. Chapter 12 gives you the 30-day plan to get there.

## Questions

**Do I need to pay for ChatGPT or Claude to use this book?**

Not yet. Free tiers of both tools carry you through every TRY IT NOW in this book and your first weeks of real use. You’ll know it’s time to pay (about $20/month) when you hit the daily limits during a normal workday — that’s the signal the tool is earning its keep. Chapter 11 covers what the money buys, and where your firm’s Westlaw or Lexis AI features fit in.

**Is this book going to tell me AI is coming for my job?**

No. It takes the opposite position, and says so on page one: it is a good tool for words, it does not do your job, it does the writing around your job. The book's own last line on it is “this book will not tell you AI is magic. It’s a power tool. In a law office it kicks harder than anywhere else — it makes up case citations, it drifts into legal advice, and it does both in a confident voice. We’ll show you exactly where it kicks and exactly how the checking habits catch it. Those habits are the difference between the paralegal AI makes faster and the paralegal AI gets in trouble.” You can read the whole opening, Nothing Goes Out Under Its Name, free: 2,193 words, no sign-up.

**What is actually in the 150 prompts?**

Eight groups: Setup & Voice (1–15), Drafting Support (16–40), Communication (41–65), Organization & the Docket (66–85), Career & Credentials (86–105), The Knowledge Work (106–120), Getting Ahead (121–145), Admin & Momentum (146–150). Every title is listed free on the prompt page, and twelve of the prompts are printed there in full.

**I have never used AI at work. Is this too advanced?**

It assumes nothing. Chapter 2 is “The 30-Minute Setup” and Chapter 3 is “How to Talk to It” — the tool is set up and the one real skill is taught before anything else is asked of you. The glossary at the back explains every term the book uses.

**How long is it?**

It is about 30,571 words across 12 chapters, plus the 150-prompt library and the glossary; the audiobook runs 2h 29m across 20 tracks, measured from the masters on 2026-08-31. Chapters 1–3 take about an hour and everything else depends on them.

**What do I actually get, and how is it delivered?**

Ebook at $7.99 and Audiobook at $14.99. Both are downloads and arrive the moment you pay — the EPUB has no DRM, so it is yours on any reader. Ebook ISBN 979-8-90623-437-7; Audiobook ISBN 979-8-90623-438-4. There is no printed edition of this one yet.
